Before you play
- Decide a deposit limit you can lose without consequence and set it in the casino’s account tools.
- Set a session reminder or time-out.
- Do not play with money meant for rent, bills or debt.
- Do not chase losses: the next spin has the same odds as the last.
If it stops being fun
Use self-exclusion in the casino account, then talk to someone. Our guide to limits and self-exclusion explains each tool. The minimum age for casino gambling in New Zealand is 20.
Signs it may be a problem
Playing for longer than you planned, depositing again to win back a loss, hiding how much you spend, borrowing to play, or feeling irritable when you stop are all common signs. One of them is enough reason to take a break and talk to someone.
You can also ask a casino to close your account or exclude you. The operator should act on a written request, and you can keep the reply as a record. If you have several accounts, repeat the request at each one.
